yes and no, it is because if you get it from an official music maker and/or producer it will be copyrighted work illegal. People who post music videos and make slide-shows are in a way illegal but not for you, but as long as you do not sell the music that you download you should be okay. Try to buy CDs through Itunes or something similar.
Well of course it's illegal, you are obtaining copyright material without paying for it AND that means everything.

Music and films are the obvious things, but even idiots filming themselves clowning around and putting them up are copyright to the individual. You even require their permission surprisingly enough, if you want download it and pass it around and they could sue you if you did.

In a way.. yes. People who upload copyrighted music sometimes get it taken back down because of claims, so if you downloaded that music then you're following an illegal thread.

But then in some cases, the persons involved in making the music are fine with people listening online because that means you're not taking possession of the song without paying.

So really, I'd say yes, because if you own a song which you haven't paid for but people are supposed to pay for, then that is illegal.

Hmm actually, Its already all illegal... its fine as long as you don't cheat like selling the songs for money and give other people bad remarks about the song.

It is illegal to download any copyright material without permission from the owner or paying for it but you're not likely to get in trouble unless you are uploading. There have been some scare tactics of sending email threats of court actions to make people pay compensation but realistically it is only people who upload for profit who are seriously targeted.
This is a grey area, Technically, because it is in the public domain, you can download it, but some of it may be copyright material. Ironically, some of the recording companies have Youtube channels and even individual artists sometimes upload their videos.
