I have noticed that. My sister has a pure bred dog and it cost around 1400 dollars. I heard other dogs who are not pure breed are much cheaper. Same with the cats.
Why is this the case? I am sorry you might ask why am I asking this in this section hmmm I was just wondering if this applies to Humans as well.Because I am 100% Japanese and my parents have said that they wish I my kids could be 100% Japanese as well. :P

Its a stupid trend. I call them "designer" dogs.
I prefer mixed dogs. Its illegal to own pure bred wolves where I live, but they allow for hybrids. So as long as its mixed with dog. I can own a wolf.
They usually do shepard mixes.They still look like wolves. They act like them too. So you definately need to know how to care for them.
Thats what I like. I dont care about trends. I think the pure bred thing is ridiculous too.
Pure breed dogs and cats may be more rare, and the more closely they resemble what dogs and cats of that breed are supposed to look like, the higher the chance they will win in a show.
I'm not sure how these ideas would apply to humans...perhaps mixing is becoming more common, so people from strictly or mostly one race are becoming more rare, and some groups want their race to be preserved.
I don't like mongrels.
Because when someone is looking to buy a purebred dog they are looking for the full traits of that particular breed, and i dont thinwhy do cats purek you can accurately compare humans to dogs....
because with dogs, it is more difficult to find a pure breed. anyone can go down to the animal rescue and pick up a mut, cute and all, but it is still a mut. (by the way i have a westie AND a mut lol so in my case i just wanted the dogs...) if you notice though, people are purposely producing muts and renaming them "designer dogs" and charging an arm and a leg.....ex: malitpoo, part maltese part poodle. this is a very good question... i never releted that to humans before

I remember the clerk at the pet store say that some mixed breeds have more health problems.
I always thought it was because you can enter pure breeds in competitions. You can make double what the dog is worth.
Basically, it comes down to pure and simple snobbishness.
"Purebreed" dogs and cats are assumed to be "pure" because someone or some group of people decided to control the breeding of a set of creatures, and inbreed them till the various deformities which inbreeding creates became "features" which could define a "breed". Human populations with geographic and cultural separations have likewise developed some basically cosmetic differences, hence the "racial types" and "cultural identities" so many people cling to.
But in critters as in civilizations, "purebreeds" are almost always defined more by their flaws and weaknesses than their strengths, whereas "mutts" and culturally diverse societies tend to be more robust and resilient.why do cats pure
With dogs and cats, "breeders" and show clubs and such artificially inflate the prices and values of their "purebreed" animals to keep them out of the hands of the "riffraff" and maintain some small minded need for social exclusivity or superiority. Many cultures try to act the same way about their own bloodlines - provided noone is allowed to look too closely at the genetic record.
For instance - the American Kennel Club allows only Dobermans from a tiny list of original stock animals to be registered as "Dobermans" despite the fact that the breed has international bloodlines and NONE of the AKC recognized dogs were part of the pack initially developed in Germany. In fact the postman who developed the breed and his descendant were long since dead and out of the dog breeding business decades before the AKC ever heard of the Doberman. This doesn't help the dogs at all - it hurts the breed in the long run, which is part of why American dobermans are generally weaker and have more health problems than European dobies. But hey, the AKC can get their money and dominate some portion of thousands of people's lives so they get to feel better about themselves.
And the ghetto breed is unwanted
Their healthier. No one wants a dog with MUTATED or RECESSIVE genes.
Pure bred dogs are priced much higher than mutts because they can perform a task better.
A full blooded Rottweiler can guard your house a lot better than lets say a Rottweiler and Labrador mix can.
